A film about the 72 hours leading up to D-Day that altered the course of history. Pressure sheds light on the tense, true story right before the Normandy Landings, the turning point of World War II. Based on his weather forecasts, meteorologist James faces the monumental task of convincing General Eisenhower and Allied headquarters to alter their plans. Should they press ahead, the entire operation could culminate in the worst disaster in military history. Director Anthony Maras of Hotel Mumbai (2018) captures the heavy pressure of the calm before the storm through precise, sensory direction. This is heightened by the meticulous performances and chemistry of a stellar ensemble cast, including Brendan Fraser, Andrew Scott, and Kerry Condon, maximizing the suspense. A moment when the fate of humanity hung on a single weather forecast, this magnificent war drama resonates with the weight of split-second decisions.
Anthony Maras is an Australian filmmaker who directed short films such as Azadi (2005), Spike Up (2007), and The Palace (2011), winning awards at the AACTA Awards (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts) and numerous international film festivals. His debut feature, Hotel Mumbai (2018), was invited to various festivals including Toronto and Palm Springs, earning critical acclaim and later landing him on Variety’s "10 Directors to Watch." Pressure is his second feature film.
