To avoid spoiling the thrilling pleasure of deduction you′ll experience while watching The Second Child for the first time, just a few hints will be provided here. Having been in a coma for the past three years, young Soo-an wakes up and asks where her older sister, Soo-ryeon, has gone. Her mother continually avoids the question. Then, a girl named Jae-in, who looks identical to her sister, appears before Soo-an. The mother explains the situation to others, but wait—it becomes increasingly difficult to believe her words. The moment Lim Soo-jung appears in the role of the mother, audiences will be reminded of Kim Jee-woon′s A Tale of Two Sisters (2003). However, this film twists the narrative even further and, with the intervention of fantasies that could be described as cosmic visions, it veers in a completely different direction. Perhaps I have already given too many hints. I recommend you reserve judgment until the final scene.
