Sasan, a boy in a village in Iran, secretly feels for Maryam. He learns that Mariam's family is planning to sell a cow to raise money for her mother's medical treatment. Determined to help her, Sasan takes his grandmother's old silver necklace to sell in town, but he is swindled, loses the necklace, and finds himself stranded in an unfamiliar place. However, his encounter with Nazanin leads him on a new journey. Represented by Kiarostami, Panahi, and Majidi, Iranian cinema boasts many masterpieces featuring children, and while Silver follows in that tradition, it takes on the feel of a new version set in the 21st century.
