In 1975, film director and screenwriter Misbach Yusa Biran founded Sinematek Indonesia, Southeast Asia's first film archive. Facing a lack of public support, he shouldered the burden of preservation alone. This film captured that grueling reality, deteriorating film stock and dire facilities. Throughout production, the collective Forum Lenteng engaged in a dialogue with Misbach. When he passed away mid-filming, they had to reimagine the remaining footage into a moving reflection on preservation itself. Over a decade later, this work continues to spark new conversations on preservation and cinema history.
Born in Pekanbaru, Indonesia in 1971, Hafiz Rancajale studied Fine Arts in Jakarta Institute of Art and co-founded ruangrupa and Forum Lenteng. He is known as videomaker in several international exhibitions such as Gwanju Biennale, Istanbul Biennale, and Images Festival-Toronto. In 2010 he published his book and art video compilations titled "10 Tahun Seni Video Indonesia (Ten Years of Indonesian Art Videos)".
