★Avg. rating

At just sixteen, Soraya already makes astonishing paintings and sculptures, as beautiful as they are dark. For five years this strong-willed Afghan sculptor and illustrator has been looking for a way out of Iran to join her mother in Austria. Soraya filmed all the footage on her phone while Mehrdad Oskouei directed the film remotely. For her, art is no pastime: she pours all her worries, joys and fears into her drawings, and sculpts with soaked egg cartons or clay found along her escape route. Images keep returning in her work: a loyal fox walking beside her, a pink moon keeping her company, and a laughing clown in which Soraya sees herself.
