The brighter the lights, the deeper the city’s shadows. Mi-sun (Han So-hee) and Do-kyung (Jun Jong-seo) endure the harsh realities of life by relying solely on each other. Dreaming of a quiet life after retirement, they scrape together money—running a flower shop by day and working in nightlife by night. But when their savings are wiped out in a scam, their dream shatters, driving them into the world of crime. Through a chance piece of information, Mi-sun and Do-kyung plot to steal the hidden fortune of Blackjack (Kim Sung-cheol), a powerful figure in the redlight district. Their scheme, however, propels them headlong into an irreversible abyss. After illuminating the dark side of youth in PARK HWA-YOUNG (2018) and YOUNG ADULT MATTERS (2021), director Lee Hwan broadens his scope with a stylish crime thriller. This story of precarious lives teetering between desire and vulnerability captures the dark underbelly of the city through dazzling, sensuous imagery. With characters that fully harness the aura of Han So-hee and Jun Jongseo, and a dynamic partnership reminiscent of Thelma and Louise (1991), the film heightens its thrills while gripping audiences with a relentlessly compelling narrative—an enthralling work of female-driven crime noir.
