At a mutual friend’s wedding, Sarah and David meet by chance and, as if led by fate itself, embark on a fantastical journey guided by a GPS device. Sarah has always run away from love, while David insists that he has yet to find true love. With each door they discover and open along the road, they reflect on the past, confront the present, and glimpse the promise of a new future. Following Columbus (2017) and After Yang (2021), Kogonada once again explores time and memory, love and loss in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. Fragments of the past, once overlooked, are transformed into moments of profound empathy, ultimately arriving at philosophical questions about how we choose to face life. The captivating performances of Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie are beautifully complemented by the delicate score composed by Hisaishi Joe, which enhances the film’s emotional resonance.
Kogonada is a writer, director, producer, editor, and visual essayist. He gained recognition when his directorial and screenwriting debut, Columbus (2017), was invited to the Sundance Film Festival, and his follow-up film, After Yang (2021), received critical acclaim following its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. He subsequently grew closer to Korean audiences by directing episodes of the Apple TV+ series Pachinko (2022). Following A Big Bold Beautiful Journey (2025), his new work, zi, was invited to the NEXT section of the Sundance Film Festival.
