Where do you go when the world becomes too much, when everything feels wrong? Can you escape reality and start a new life? The film follows a community that has built a utopian society in the Siberian taiga. Since the 1990s they have followed Vissarion, a man who regards himself as the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. In the Abode of Dawn his portrait hangs in every home; he is less a presence than an object of the residents' longing, the centre their lives revolve around like planets around the sun, though he rarely appears. The film does not ask whether Vissarion is the son of God, but whether the people here are happier than before they came.
