Godzilla Minus Zero is the highly anticipated new film directed, written and with VFX by Yamazaki Takashi, who won the Academy Award® for Best Visual Effects for Godzilla Minus One. The film will be theatrically released in Japan by TOHO on Tuesday, November 3, followed by a wide theatrical release across North America by GKIDS beginning Friday, November 6, 2026.
War reduced Japan to zero, and Godzilla plunged it into minus. Two years have passed since then, and the country has faced agonizing struggles to achieve recovery and finally reclaim its daily life. Just as humanity managed to cling to a hard-won peace, a new threat strikes, crushing hope in an instant.
There is no third time. Everything ends here.
Yamazaki made his debut as a film director in 2000 with Juvenile. His film Always: Sunset on Third Street (2005) won 12 awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, at the 29th Japan Academy Film Prize. Most recently, he wrote, directed, and led the visual effects team for Godzilla Minus One (2023), becoming the first Japanese film to win the Academy Award® for Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards.
