The Chen family, practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine, move from China to Taiwan and open a clinic beside the Ng family's Western-medicine practice. Polite but distant, the two households clash over language, medicine, and manners—until romance complicates everything. As the Chen sons fall for the Ng daughter and the family's child bride, misunderstandings multiply before three couples finally receive their families' blessing. An early film by Lee Hsing, it mixes postwar cultural friction, multilingual humour, and the warm comic touch that would later define his work.
Born in Shanghai in 1930, Lee Hsing moved to Taiwan in 1948 and became a leading figure in Taiwan Cinema.
