The film follows the daily lives of the veteran theatre makers Wang Mo-lin and Wen Chi-hsing, looking at people who stay outside the system yet keep to their original intentions. Wu Yao-tung records not only the almost monastic solitude and persistence of the two theatre artists in everyday life, but also, through their inner worlds, reflects on his own twenty-five years of documentary filmmaking. It is a documentary about "marginal artists" and also a dialogue of the soul in which the director heals himself, challenges memory and forgetting, and recovers the creative intentions of his student years. Wang Mo-lin called the people in the film "ghosts of the city who come and go", and praised it for recording the emptiness and boredom of life with the greatest care; it is regarded as one of the documentaries that best outline a filmmaker's own self.
