Furniture that has stood in this building since the 1970s is now stacked up, ready to be taken away. Triangular and square elements of wood and metal, pieces of floor and ceiling, seem to fight against their demolition. The Sava Congress Centre once carried a vision of Yugoslavia's future: an internationally minded, non-aligned socialist state. After the federation broke up, this modernist landmark in New Belgrade was gradually forgotten by the state and fell into decay over decades. In 2020 the centre was privatised, and reconstruction began two years later. Like many young workers, Nenad is entering the Sava Centre for the first time. He has no connection to the building's past, nor to the society that built it.
