A youthful high-teen romance musical drama, the kind not seen in a long time. Cinta (meaning ‘love’ in Indonesian) is a pretty and talented girl well-known throughout her school. Everyone expects her to win the top prize in the school’s essay contest, yet the honor unexpectedly goes to Rangga, a boy no one even knew existed. Gradually, Cinta becomes interested in Rangga, who is different from her in every way, and the more her feelings for Rannga develop the rockier her relationships with her friends become. Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? (2002) was a great box office hit and a milestone in Indonesian cinema, spawning sequels, spinoffs, short films, and television series. Rangga & Cinta is a remake of the original film, directed by Riri Riza, who was a producer on the original. As this story of vibrant yet bittersweet teenage love and friendship unfolds, the film also weaves in social issues that catch audience attention.
