Through the first-person account of Fong—a scholar who cannot draw a sword but can certainly wield a pen—the film follows his investigation into a series of mysterious murders in the wuxia world committed by killer butterflies. He encounters Tien Fung, the leader of the Ten Flags, and the Green Shadow at Shum Castle, where the master becomes the next killing target.
