Guofeng loses his purpose and leads a gloomy college life in Shanghai after his parents are arrested on suspicion of fraud. One drunken night, he is taken care of by older dorm manager An, sparking a romance beyond their age difference. However, An carries the trauma of a family that has fallen apart after her daughter's death in the city... The Night That Binds Us is the striking directorial debut of Wang Jiangyong, who was an assistant director to Zhang Min, known for Rainclouds over Wushan (1996). Min serves as producer. An is played by Hu Ling, who has appeared in Lou Ye's films, including Summer Palace (2006).
