Theresia stays by the bedsides of the dying, praying for them and helping them pass away in peace. At the bedside of Varkichan, a wealthy farmer, she urges him to repent and forgive, but the stubborn Varkichan has no intention of dying this way, nor does he want to show any weakness to his son George and George’s wife, who have returned after ten years and are now waiting for him to die. How can the long suffering and inherited anger that have tormented everyone in the family finally be brought to an end? This question emerges from George’s wife, a Tamil woman who has been looked down upon by her father-in-law throughout her married life, and from Theresia, a woman who lost her family without warning and became all alone. The Soul Whisperer is a film about dignified death, but also about the forgiveness and courage available only to the living. Those about to die are not the only ones in need of solace for the soul.
