Nicolas Gourault
An artist and filmmaker with a background in visual arts and visual studies, based in Paris, France. Before graduating from Le Fresnoy, he worked with Forensic Architecture at Goldsmiths, University of London. Deeply influenced by these two experiences, Nicolas's work continually explores the critical use of new media in online open-source investigations and documentary practice. His films and video installations examine the power relations behind technology and attempt to construct counter-narratives through contextualized testimony and experimental images. Nicolas's works, including Zai Tamen Yan Zhong and Qiche Caokong Shouce, have been exhibited at contemporary art institutions including the Centre Pompidou in France, the ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe and the HMKV in Dortmund, Germany, and the Ars Electronica Center in Linz, Austria. They have also been selected for festivals including the Berlin International Film Festival, Cinéma du Réel in France, the New York Film Festival and the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.
