Paul Grimault was a French animator and filmmaker renowned for his delicate, satirical, and poetic directorial style. His masterpiece, The King and the Mockingbird, began production in 1948 based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, but work was halted in 1952 when the producer released an unfinished version against the director′s wishes. After eventually reclaiming the rights, he combined existing footage with newly created scenes to complete the film in 1980, bringing the project to fruition over a span of more than thirty years.
