Creators' Salon: Understanding the World the Documentary Way (Feng Yan)

创作者沙龙《用纪录片的方式理解世界》（冯艳）

For a documentary maker, when does the bond with a subject, and with the people filmed, come to an end? At the moment the work is finished? Students often ask me: how far do I film before my documentary can end? I will talk about my series "Women of the Yangtze", filmed over eighteen years and edited over more than ten, and about what I gained, where I failed and what I realised while making it, and the unforgettable moments, those kept in the images and those never filmed. Those were years of growing up together with the documentary.
