Xiaodong, a ride-hailing driver from the countryside, was swept years ago into a dream of cinema while working as a security guard at the Beijing Film Academy, and briefly shone as the inspiring 'security guard brother'. When the attention faded, he had to return to reality. Middle-aged Yuzhuo once had a respectable job and a family that looked happy but rarely talked. Ill, depressed and afraid that her days are numbered, she meets Xiaodong and throws herself into love. Lucky and unlucky at once, their meeting is like an ordinary stone dropped into still water: it raises a violent splash, then ripple after ripple of consequences.
