”I’ll wait for you as long as you want. But will it happen sooner or later?”
This is the logline for Nanni Moretti’s latest film. Loosely adapted from Israeli writer Eshkol Nevo’s short story collection Hungry Heart, the film stars French actor Louis Garrel and Jasmine Trinca, with Moretti himself making a cameo appearance. The mere fact that the director whose films have been selected for the Cannes competition an astonishing nine times chose Venice over Cannes this time has generated buzz since early this year. Audiences will get to see the reason for themselves on screen. The film quietly contemplates the relationships, anxieties, and fragility of contemporary life, moving forward - calmly yet ardently - toward somewhere: toward the night when two people will face each other once again. It will happen tonight.
