Following their father’s death, two sisters are evicted from their beloved home along with their mother and younger sister. Amid a harsh reality where their very survival is threatened, the composed and rational elder sister Elinor and the passionate, candid younger sister Marianne each confront life, love, and an unjust world in their own distinct ways. True to the intent of Jane Austen’s early working title Elinor and Marianne, Sense and Sensibility shifts focus beyond mere romantic entanglements to center on the sisters’ own narrative and psychological solidarity. Where as Ang Lee’s Sense and Sensibility (1995) served as the quintessential classic lyrical romance, director Georgia Oakley focuses instead on the oppressive social structures and the sheer urgency of survival of the era. The synergy between Daisy Edgar-Jones’s deep internal performance and Esme Creed-Miles’s raw energy transforms the sisters’ coming-of-age journey into a modern, multidimensional portrait set against the realistic miseen- scene of the 19th-century English countryside.
