In a fishing village in southern Taiwan, Jun, a boy who loves to run and play, forms a secret friendship with Jasper, a city boy from Singapore. When Jasper’s parents buy up land to build a solar power plant and construction gets underway, the small rural village is thrown into turmoil. As their business interests clash with those of the village fishers, the two boys struggle to protect their friendship, but their relationship is put to the test. The film traces the coming-of-age of two boys as their special friendship takes shape, is shaken, and ultimately breaks apart amid the forces of development sweeping through their local community and the resulting conflicts among adults. Lu Po-shun’s camera shines with scenes full of affection for its subjects, while the realities of the local community come together with the boys’ search for their identities in this contemporary take on the Taiwanese New Wave.
